Hiring is hard. You always wonder if what you see (in an interview or on a resume) is what you’ll get (once they’re actually working for the company). About 8 weeks ago (yes this post is seriously overdue), Nicole Rosenberg joined our team as Foodzie #5 as our Front End/User Experience Developer. With a love for blueberries, baked goods, and improving user experience, she’s been the perfect addition to the Foodzie family.

Her position in her own words: (which you can now find in our new About Us section, courtesy of you-know-who, Nicole!).
I’m the one you call when you’re pulling your hair out because you can’t find the button to do the thing. It’s my job to make sure that your time on Foodzie.com is as hassle free as possible so you can focus on what’s important: the food.
I specifically remember the day I first talked to Nicole. Nik had done the dirty work and whittled our list of candidates down from hundreds of resumes to just a select group of 1st interviews. That list was then narrowed further for 2nd interviews; that’s when I jumped in. We had a quick exercise for each candidate to complete that involved improving the usability of Foodzie for our users. I specifically mentioned to Rob and Nik – “When the right person comes along, we’re going to notice…right?” We were eagerly waiting for that wow factor.
Nicole was already one step ahead of the other candidates, as she had actually purchased a product from us, knowing that to fully understand the usability of the site, she had to experience it end-to-end. Or maybe she just really wanted the chocolate.
Now that I know her better, it was probably both. Regardless, it stood out. After the first minute into our call, I turned to Rob and said, wow, she’s good. If there was anything that stood out most it was the process she used to dissect the site. She was thorough, thoughtful, and well…just damn good.
Nicole joined the team when we were in the middle of a sprint, with a long list of to-dos piled up waiting for her arrival. She handled it all like a champ and really approaches every task with the same amount of thoughtfulness we saw in that interview. She’s still buying chocolate too, and blueberry jam, and organic ketchup, and olive oil, and…she’s probably one of our producers’ best customers. It’s clear to us that the wow factor we saw in that interview wasn’t just a well-crafted interview to win us over, it was 100% genuine Nicole, and we’re so thrilled that she’s a Foodzie.
