Today we’re kicking off a new series on the blog, wherein we are reaching out to our favorite tastemakers to find out what food and food-related products they’re in love with right now. Today, we’re talking to Kimberley Hasselbrink of The Year in Food, and contributor to Bon Appetit and the Etsy blog. Here’s three things she’s hooked on at the moment:

1) Plenty, by Yotam Ottolenghi
This is the cookbook that I just can’t get enough of. I love Ottolenghi’s creative approach to building flavor and texture, and his stunning book has become a source of repeated inspiration for me in cooking. I just made his recipe for harissa, and I’m hooked. It’s amazing stuff, and incredibly versatile. Bright, spicy, tangy flavors like this are so great in the winter months.
2) INNA Jam
It’s hard to pick favorites with Dafna’s jams: her Plenty Spicy Jalapeño paired with a firm cheese as a summer snack is addictive. Her fruit-forward Blueberry and Pluot jams find their way to my morning toast (with almond butter) nearly every day of the week until the jar is empty. I love her emphasis on varietal fruit and her restraint with sugar – all details that make her jams extra special.
3) Mortar + Pestle
I had forgotten how lovely the act of grinding spices by hand can be until I purchased this mortar + pestle. I thought that it would be more decorative than functional but it actually saved the day grinding coffee one morning when the power was out. (Although I would not recommend spending the better part of your morning grinding coffee beans by hand.) And it’s been such a boon in making dry rubs with freshly ground spices.

Love Kimberley and love her essentials! I completely agree that INNA Jam is the best. You can taste the quality and they aren't too sweet. I bought a jar while visiting a friend in California and she stowed a jar in her luggage when she visited at Christmas. I am cherishing my last jar
I too am obsessed with Ottolenghi – his recipes pack an amazing taste punch! Wait til you try the Pear crostini – I added fennel and WOW! Great picks, Kimberly!
