The chocolate gourmet Story

Mary Winslow, a Chicago native and veteran wedding cake designer, started chocolate gourmet to satisfy her “creative impulses.” Prompted by a successful sampling of her confections at the Chicago History Museum, Mary began experimenting with handcrafted, small batch treats. Though chocolate gourmet is an artisan bakery committed to quality ingredients and a detail-oriented process, Mary “never forgets that enjoying a good cookie, brownie, or truffle is just plain fun.”

How the Square One Brownie is Made

The newest addition to the chocolate gourmet repertoire is the Square One, aka “the brownie standard.” The Square’s fudgy interior is topped with a crisp, flaky crust and bittersweet chocolate chips. The secret? Don’t over beat and don’t over bake. Also, chocolate gourmet is a bake-to-order company, which means everything you order will arrive at your doorstep, fresh and full of flavor.

What We Love

Decadent: Chocolate is supposed to be rich and luxurious. The Square hits on all the right notes!

Creative: From “Precocious Peanut Butter” to “Oozy Boozy Caramel,” the names and flavors created by chocolate gourmet are a treat for both your taste buds and your sense of humor.

Community Minded: chocolate gourmet tries to source as many ingredients as possible from local businesses.

Like wine, the fermentation process of chocolate is one of the most important factors in determining the final flavor. Since this critical step has to occur soon after harvest, the relationship between chocolatier and farmer is critical in supporting a consistent and sustainable chocolate industry.
