The Spice Lab Story
The Spice Lab started as one gigantic accident. In 2009, Brett Cramer’s social networking website wasn’t making much money, so he decided to buy gourmet salts for his friends and family for the holidays. People laughed when they saw his giant 5-pound bags of salt, until they tasted the goodness. Friends started asking for more and more samples, and an idea was born. Brett soon launched The Spice Lab to provide sample sizes of affordable and delicious salts from around the world.
The Origin of Salts
Salt crystals form in a variety of shapes and sizes, from flat sheets to perfect cubes. Their formation is affected by heat, wind, and other natural elements, which in turn alters the taste and crunch of the salt. The disparities between different kinds of salt don’t actually come from their nutrients, but instead from how the crystal was formed. Brett compares it to tasting a snowball versus an icicle - they’re made of the same elements, but the experience of eating each is completely different.
